Beautiful Byron Bay

It is raining in Queensland. Well, to be more precise, it is raining in south east Queensland and north New South Wales. We flew into Coolangatta airport today. At the time we were only the second plane to land for the day. And this was after one failed attempt. (it is always disconcerting to be preparing for the landing and for the plane to suddenly accelerate and take off again!) I was incredibly grateful that we were not diverted! There was pandemonium at the airport with most flights diverted, delayed or cancelled. We got out quickly!

We drove to Byron Bay where we are staying for four nights. The rain was heavy but that didn't slow the trucks - honestly what are they thinking - and we were very lucky that none of the roads were closed.

We've still managed to have a bit of fun today. There is nothing like heavy rain to make you laugh. We went to the shops and enjoyed looking at the huge range of swimmers. Lunch was at a great little Asian place. We checked into our apartment and went for a walk down to the beach. I took the "tough" camera with us. The beach was amazing. The wind was blowing from the east, whipping in our faces and hurt! But it didn't stop us from paddling in the lukewarm water and we had fun with the camera. We all ended up being totally soaked - a Mixture of ocean and rain. It was very funny. We purchased food for dinner so we didn't have to leave the room. Not what we normally do. We are going to settle down and watch the tennis! So nice to be on holidays even with rain!

Well, I'm going for a walk along the beach. It has stopped raining for the moment!
